That of universal plate-cylinder locks, also known as cam locks, is a rather broad and varied category: in fact, such models can have multiple features both in terms of technique and size.

These locks are made of die-cast zinc, an alloy known as zamak, and consist of an outer bushing, a barrel-cylinder, which is the element that contains the plate-cylinders that determine the combination, a cam or alternatively of a cam.

Locking rotations can be either clockwise or counterclockwise, as well as 90° or 180°, depending on the model.

There are also several installation systems, and the most usual ones include given, horseshoe “clip” and snap spring: models of the latter type are called quick-fix locks precisely because their installation is particularly quick and easy.
