Striker plate

The striker plate is a L-shaped zinc plated steel plate to install on furniture to engage cams, latchesand bolts.

It is fixed using two screws. It us used when it is not possible for the cam/bolt to engage the cabinet uprights or a purposedly designed groove. Its shape makes sure the cam is firmly held in the closing position and protects the door from unauthorized opening.
