The rack and pinion mechanism allows fast and secure locking even without the use of a key, which remains integral with the lock body when opening. Made of steel, die-cast metal or plastic and available in chrome or nickel-plated finishes, they offer high installation versatility on thin panels, even without drilling. Locking options include keyed different or single keyed alike, numerical combinations and plate-cylinder systems, providing security and convenience for high access frequency environments.

Rack and pinion locks have a rather unique functionality and are specifically aimed at sliding sashes.

Their structure involves a rack-and-pinion rod and a lock body that slides on the same; when opening, the key always remains attached to the body, which averts the possibility that it could be lost, while when locking, the use of the key is not necessary, which accentuates convenience.

In the vast majority of cases, rack locks are applied to glass or crystal doors; if the thickness is less than 6 mm, moreover, they can be installed in a particularly easy way, without even having to drill holes in the door.

These locks can also be used for sliding sashes with non-transparent surfaces, such as on wooden sashes, as long as their thickness is low; OMR Serrature offers rack locks for wooden sashes with a maximum thickness of 28 mm.

Rack-and-pinion locks can therefore cover all items that have sliding doors and are particularly suitable for applications where openings are made, as a rule, for fairly short time spans, thus only for taking or storing something.
